Vancouver to Victoria Ferry

The boy and I will be visiting Vancouver from the 22nd through 25th. We want to take the ferry over to Victoria one day. The Vanouver tourism official site says it's a four hour trip one-way, while the Ferry site says it's 1 1/2 hours. Any clue on the descrepancy?
Also, how neccessary is a car in Victoria? Should we bring along our rental car or leave it behind?
Thanks!

  • Avatar Harry B What are some good cities to visit on the west coast of Canada besides Vancouver and Victoria?

Some mates of mine and I are planning a trip up to Canadaland and want to go to fun cities that aren't overpopulated by tourists, such as Vancouver and Victoria. We are just a couple of college kids that are looking for maybe a friendly bar scene and some daytime activities that will keep us busy. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

    • There is also Kelowna in the Okanagan (interior of B.C.). It is a region between two mountain ranges with a lake down the middle of the entire area. Very beautiful. Lots of wineries. It's a few hours from Vancouver though. You could also go up to Whistler. Although it's a ski town, there is still a lot to do in the summer. If you were going to B.C. in the winter, definitely go to Whistler.

  • Avatar R J What do you think are some good places to visit while driving up to Canada (and at Canada)?

Me and a friend are going on a road trip from Irvine, CA to Canada. We're not sure were our end destination will be yet so any recommendation would be fantastic.

Our road trip will mainly consist of visiting scenic places, albeit we're willing to visit any place that would be of interest. Also, we're more adventurous too, so we'd be willing to visit places that your ordinary tourist wouldn't visit.

    • Vancouver British Columbia is a wonderful city. The University of British Colombia has a very good and interesting museum of anthropology. Grouse mountain is open, even in the summertime. Further north is Whistler, where the winter Olympics were. To the west, with a ferry ride, is the quasi-olde …risty) places on the island.

go to TOURISM BC or some such website and get lots of info. well worth the trip.

also be sure to go up and see Mt St Helens (Longview, WA) when you are passing by. Mt Rainier is also scenic, as are scores of places along the west coast.
